The Thorn Tree Event Volunteers
Every May we host a fundraiser called The ThornTree event, which raises a majority of the funds that run our programs. This event is organized by our board members and a committee of 32 volunteers. We need help planning the event, as well as working at the actual event itself.
Ongoing Volunteer Needs
If you have a unique skill, talent, or expertise that you’d like to volunteer with us, please let us know what you’re interested in helping us with most, and we’ll work to create a rewarding opportunity for you to make a big impact with us.
Current Volunteer Needs
— We’re currently looking for help with the following tasks:
— Selling bracelets on the internet
— Preparing tax forms
— Processing donations that are being sent as gifts
— Editing video clips of the pre-schools
— Setting up a database of supporters
— Writing copy for various pieces of promotional/marketing collateral
Volunteer in Kenya
We are unable to offer volunteer opportunities at our schools. We do, however, refer interested volunteers to Volunteer Teach Kenya a sister organization that works with a school just south of Nairobi (and east of Machakos). Volunteer Teach Kenya runs an excellent English reading program that needs volunteers to make it work. We highly recommend it for anyone who has a couple of weeks or months to volunteer.
