Our Impact
We believe in applying the best business practices to the management of our programs. We are focused on the end results of our goal and on accountability. We establish clear goals with measurements in place to monitor our progress, and we take corrective action immediately to ensure we remain on track.
We work closely with local Samburu leaders to create clear objectives for all of our initiatives. We analyze problems together, generate solutions, create effective strategies, and identify measurements by which to monitor our progress. We send money to Kenya on a project-by-project basis and Jane Newman, along with other volunteers, visits the schools at least four times a year to evaluate activities. Teachers from the United States visit annually to provide training and help local head teachers with teaching issues.
The program directors, parents, teachers, and students in Samburu are totally committed to improving their education. Head teachers, teachers, and program directors work long hours and weekends to make sure the students have the best possible education.
Our primary objective has been to get more children to come to school. We started in 2002 with 130 students in the two primary schools on Ndonyo Wasin and Sereolipi. We now support more than 1,300 students in school.
-
More Preschools
In 2002, there were no preschools in the nomadic areas. Now, we run 14 preschools in the Samburu area.
-
Better Grades
The “60 × 5” program which is aimed at improving grades and academic performance has far exceeded our expectations.
-
More Scholarships
Ninety students are enrolled in our scholarship program. They attend Kenya’s top high schools, technical schools, and colleges.
-
Excellent Jobs
Although we only started sponsoring students in 2006, we already have 12 students who have graduated from the scholarship program.
