The Benefits Of Education
Education provides many benefits to the Samburu people. It can improve the socio-economic structures of the community, mitigate poverty, preserve the Samburu culture, give the Samburu people control over their own destiny, and enable students to achieve their full potential.
Education boosts the socio-economic structure of the community.
People with education will return to the community as much needed teachers, nurses, community workers, masons, carpenters, business owners, and more. In these new roles, the educated Samburu will be able to improve their community’s overall standing.
Education mitigates poverty.
In Kenya, it is common for those with jobs to send money home to support their families. On average one working person supports 9 people at home. In order to get a job to support a family, you need to be educated. The better the job, the more education you need.
Education helps preserve the Samburu culture.
Throughout Africa, poverty and environmental degradation cause cultures to die. As the droughts in Samburu escalate in frequency and intensity, better education can lead to the jobs people need to survive the droughts. Education can give the Samburu the skills and resources they need to protect their way of life.
Education gives the Samburu people control of their own destiny.
If the people of the Samburu tribe can speak fluent English and Kiswahili, they will be able to communicate with the outside world. They be able to protect their rights and ensure they receive their fair share of future development resources.
Education enables Samburu children to achieve their potential.
Without education, none of the children of Samburu will be able to follow their dreams to become teachers, nurses, mechanics, pilots or the many other things they would like to do with their lives. With education, they will be able to pursue their dreams.
